Twin Day Thursday

Thursday is Twin Day for Peru. Students are encouraged to dress up with a buddy or a group. If students are struggling to decide what to wear or didn't line up a twin, they can wear St. Philip colours or Spirit Wear to match some other friends throughout the school.

Scientists in the School

The grade ones had the opportunity to take part in an amazing workshop today. With the help of some amazing volunteers and Scientist Paula, the students were able to learn all about Energy. Here are a few pics from our day!

A few reminders

- a reminder that Monday is Family Day. We will be back at school Tuesday.

- www and library are on Tuesday

- volunteer forms for Scientists in the School are due Wednesday. There was a date error on the bottom portion. Just to clarify - the Scientist in the School day is Tuesday February 27 in the afternoon.

- report cards went home Thursday. If an interview was not requested but you would like to meet or check in with a phone interview, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m happy to meet with anyone interested.

Structure Challenge

The grade ones participated in a structure challenge. They needed to build a strong and stable structure that could withstand the very big, bad wolf! They did a great job applying what they've learned to build some sturdy structures. The wolf was pretty tired out by the end of the day!

Valentine's Day is this Wednesday. Students are welcomed to bring in valentine's for their class if they'd like. We have 20 students in the class.

100th Day of School!

This Friday was the 100th Day of School. The students spent the day exploring 100! Take a look at a few of our activities from the day...

Language

In reading, we will be focusing on determining important ideas by retelling ideas in a fiction texts. We continue to use our GO Map to recall the important details we need.

In writing, we are transferring our understanding of fiction texts by becoming author's of our own narrative stories. Students are brainstorming with the help of the GO Map and are writing stories with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Students did an outstanding job with their oral presentations. They used the different techniques practised in class to share their book report.

Math

We have started working on Probability. We are learning about the chances of everyday things happening using our math words (certain, likely, unlikely, impossible and always, sometimes, never). We are also making predictions and completing probability experiments to determine the likelihood of different results (ex. spinner games, rolling dice, flipping cups).

How you can help at home:

- practise counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s to 100

- locate different numbers on the 100s chart

- talk about the likelihood of events

- look for and name 3D solids around you
