Scientists in the School Wednesday

A reminder that Scientists in the Schools is THIS Wednesday.  Right now,  the forecast is calling for 20cm of snow Tuesday - Wednesday.  If buses are cancelled Wednesday, our workshop will be postponed to a later date.  

Favourite Healthy Snack and Flyers

As part of our health and descriptive writing, students are asked to pack a favourite healthy snack on Monday and Tuesday that they would like to write about.  We will be completing our brainstorming as we eat!

We will also continue to look at food from each food group.  Please send in any grocery flyers you may have early next week for a separate activity.

Reader's Theater Group 2 Scripts

After several delays with bus cancellations, group 2 finally got the chance to work with their Grade 3 reading buddies.  Reader's Theatre scripts for group 2 were sent home today.  Please take some time to help your child practise learning the words of their part.  We will also be practising at school.  Since we only meet our full groups every second week, we will be working on this for the next month or so.

Any reading practise can also be included as part of their Sens reading cup minutes.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

No Homework This Week

Due to the VERY short school week, homework duotangs will not go home until next Wednesday February 24th.  If your child's binder portfolio is still at home, please send them back as soon as possible (along with the reflection sheet and language notebook).  Thank you!

A reminder that Thursday February 18th is our final skating day.  Don't forget those skates!

Term One Report Cards and Interviews

Term One report cards will be sent home with students Wednesday.  A note has been included letting you know whether an interview has been requested for the evening of Thursday February 25th.  If an interview has not been requested and you would like a time, you are more than welcomed to book one.

Grade One Portfolio Binders

The grade ones brought home their portfolio binders today.  Please take some time to go through their work, listen to the QR codes and complete the reflection sheet with your child.  All of the work should be back to school by Wednesday.  

Extra pairs of tickets

There are 2 extra pairs of tickets for theBinghamton Senators game on Saturday.  If you'd like them, write a note in your child's agenda.  If there are more people than tickets we will have a draw in class.

Sparty Pizza Party

We had a great lunch with Sparty today! The students were VERY excited to see him and all of the prizes he brought with him.  Please note: there are a pair of tickets to the Binghamton Senators game in the front pocket of each child's agenda.

Valentine's Day

I've had a couple of questions about when and if we will be handing out valentines in class.  We will be celebrating Valentine's Day as well as the 100th day of school this Friday.  If students wish to hand out valentines, we will do so on Friday.  We have 21 students in our class.  Thanks! 

Sparty Pizza Party Winners!

All of our Grade One reading has paid off!  We found out today we were the 2nd prize winners for the month of February and won a Sparty Pizza Party,  The only date they have available is this Tuesday February 9th.  This is a Danby's day so if your child gets Danby's they can bring a ziplock bag to either take pizza or Danby's home.

On Tuesday, students are invited to wear their Sens gear.  Sparty will usually only sign official Sens gear.  He will also be bringing some Sens treats along for us too!

Linear Measurement

We have been working on linear measurement.  We started by using our footprints to find objects that were shorter than, the same as and longer than our footprints.

After discovering that footprints aren't the most reliable unit of measurement, we started exploring non-standard units that we can use to measure.  Below are some students in action measuring lengths, heights and widths using unifix cubes.

Skating Reminder

Just a reminder that this Thursday February 4th is our first primary skating morning. Students are to bring their skates in a separate bag to school.   All skaters must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on the ice.

All volunteers will meet the students at the rink at their classes designated time.  The times below include time to get skates on and off as well as time on the ice.

The schedule for the morning is:

Grade 3 and 3/4 - 9:30 am - 10:35 am

Grade 2 and 2/3 - 10:10 am - 11:15 am

Grades 1 and 1/2 - 10:50 am - 11:55 am

We are looking forward to a great morning.

Friday February 19th - Literary Character Day (Dress Up as your favourite character)
Friday February 26th - Backwards Day

Our Winter Fun Day is scheduled for the afternoon of February 26th from 1:05 - 3:50.  The inclement date will be March 4th.
